Why reform must = socialism?

Our health care system in the United States is a mess.  It isn’t a mess because it is based on free market principles.  In fact I contend the current problems are mainly a result of well meaning, but misguided regulations and laws.  Anyone who is a smart shopper evaluates the quality and value of the products and services they purchase.  But when it comes to health care even the smartest shoppers turn into a herb of blind sheep.  We don’t ask questions, we don’t negotiate price, we simply sign whatever documents are placed in front of our noses, pay whatever the copay is and hope for the best.  What if we could shop for the best care?  What if we could negotiate for the best price?  I know it is a crazy concept.

ObamaCare, in an well meaning, but misguided attempt to help the ‘blind sheep’ is working on deals that would further screw up the system.  Take for example the White House’s deal with the drug industry.  One one hand Obama’s team worked out a deal that would prevent government agencies from negotiating on the prices of drugs – i.e. trying to get the best deal for patients who rely on the government’s new health care system.  On the other hand Congress balked, suggesting they wan to regulate drug prices.  Both ideas are bad.  They violate the very tenants of the free market.  Why shouldn’t government get the best price for the goods they purchase?  Why should government be able to set the price of goods private companies sell?

We need leaders in Washington who believe in Capitalism and seek to enhance it, not further undermine it.

  1. What if it is all designed to create a dependant class of people that cannot live without the government in thier lives? What if it is all about a power grab?
