Obama’s Present to Russia?

September 17, 2009

Today is the 70th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Poland.  Obama decided to honor the date by backing out of an agreement to provide a missile defense shield to Poland.  Russia is elated by the news as they hope to expand their sphere of influence in the region once again.  The Polish Minstry of Defense wasn’t so excited suggesting, “This is catastrophic for Poland.”  According to Suzanne Malveaux, “Poland and the Czech Republic had based much of their future security policy on getting the missile defenses from the United States. The countries share deep concerns of a future military threat from the east — namely, Russia — and may now look for other defense assurances from their NATO allies.”  The UK Telegraph calls the move a “Shameful surrender”.  I agree.

Why do we treat our allies worse than our enemies?

  1. That’s our President, destroying the country one step at a time: saddle our children and grandchildren with crushing debt, destroy our healthcare system, alienate our allies, weaken our defense.

  2. Heaven forbid we cut military spending to pay for our own citizens. How conservative groups can simultaneously blame Obama for out debt while criticizing him for cutting spending baffles me.

  3. Hmmm, which is a better investment in America? (1) Spending on defense which just happens to provide jobs for engineers, machinists, secretaries, welders, programmers, laborers and a zillion other productive job categories who then use the money to enrich their and their families lives. (2) Giving away billions to the crooks at Acorn?

  4. @TJ the shield protects the United States AND the entire EU (the EU is covering part of the cost). Stopping missiles before they get close the US is a good thing. Also, Obama is not offering to send the money back to us (i.e. you and me). He will just spend it one something else…

  5. @Ron s/b (2) Giving away 2.2 million to the crooks at Acorn. Well, that was in 2009. Your right since 1994 the total given to Acorn got closer to billions at a total of
    $54 million.
